Sound design – “The Gingerbread Lady” (Happy Medium Theatre Co.)

In September of 2009, I served as Sound Designer for Neil Simon’s “The Gingerbread Lady,” the inaugural production of the Happy Medium Theatre Company in Boston, MA.   The play is about an ex-lounge singer and her struggles with alcoholism.

The production required two songs to be recorded, featuring Crystal Lisbon (the actress playing the lounge singer) singing “Summertime” (from Porgy & Bess) and “When Love Goes Wrong” (from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes).  I recorded and produced both tracks using Sonar and Propellerhead Reason 4.0.

Andy Hicks is a music producer, graphic artist, audio engineer, actor, musician, writer, production designer, stage director, DJ, and "experience media specialist." He is currently a weekend radio DJ and administrative contractor (i.e. temp). He has six years experience as a professional broadcaster, several more years experience with the National Park Service as a historical interpreter/museum specialist, and four years experience as an audio designer. He has also directed, designed, and appeared in theatrical productions all his life. He's looking for some kind of full-time job where he can put his vast collection of peculiar talents to good use.
